So since people tend to like my little commentary posts I do occasionally and I’ve never actually watched most Disney Afternoon shows (and have very limited memories of the ones I did watch), I thought it’d be fun to do a little project of going through and doing reactions of these shows
I’ll keep this post pinned and edit it to update how it’s going
Latest episode: The Sinister Sculptor (Adventures of the Gummi Bears Episode 2) (2/1293)
Fun fact, I use that as my “oh you should have kids!” ender. “Yeah well I’m probably infertile and barred from being eligible to adopt so it’s probably not happening”
[ID: an edited Calvin and Hobbes panel where Calvin sits, smiling, at a lemonade stand with a sign taped to the front of the table. It reads: It’s time to retire that other meme and replace it with this template. Change my mind. Next image is the same meme but the sign reads: Steven Crowder does not deserve a meme format. Change my mind. /end]
See this just feels so much better. I’ve read enough of those comics to know that Calvin has some really deep insights rattling around in his head. And look how happy and attentive he looks. You could absolutely have a polite, intelligent, and enriching conversation with this kid. Meanwhile Steven Crowder is so financially incentivized to always look like the smartest guy in any given room that the only way to change his mind is with a 2x4 to the side of the head. Which, I admit, would be enriching in its own way.

This short story by Junji Ito is about a fault that appears in Amigara mountain after an earthquake. The earthquake exposes countless human-shaped holes in the mountain which seem to have been made about a thousand years ago. People, intrigued by these
silhouettes, gather at the site and that’s when things get creepy.
It’s about a 15-20 min read, but if you haven’t read this before, you’re in for a treat. Link above.
i mean it’s not like i can just NOT reblog amigara fault. what if one of my followers is one of the lucky ten thousand who HASN’T been unutturably altered for life by it yet? go read it! it’s creepy, but trust me, it was made for you.
So I go to the dentist and the appointment I had was not the appointment that I thought I was going to have (normal maintenance vs deep clean) so i warned the dentist “hey heads up I burn through dental anesthetics super quick and also I’d like to use as little as possible because putting the dental anesthetics in my body is the most painful part of the process unless I’m having a root canal or something” and she’s like “Hmm. Okay. Is it just the injection site?” and I was like “no, it will feel like burning on the opposite side of my face and in my nose and eyes and stuff.” And she was like “Hmm. Do you turn really red when this happens?” And I was like “I don’t know, I can’t really see myself when it happens.” And she was like “are you willing to experiment with this a little?” And I was like “sure, no worries” and she injected me with one anesthetic and it hurt like a motherfucker and she and the assistant both went “OOOH” and she was like “Yeah you got really red right away let’s try the other,” and it was the same thing and then she was like “okay I think this is the one that will work” and it hurt a little bit but it was fucking NOTHING compared to the comprehensive full stabbing burning facial pain from the others and long story short the dentist was like “You’re reacting to the epinephrine in these other anesthetics,” which I guess is fairly common for people who have autoimmune disorders.
So I guess this is to say: If you get spreading, burning, stabbing pain when you are being injected with local anesthetics it’s not supposed to do that and you should say something.
But the anaesthetic being injected into your gum is still supposed to hurt a lot right? Like, non-burning pain is normal? The big fuckoff needle going into your gum is still supposed to be agony yes?
Yeah, needles going into soft tissue hurts. That’s why they’ll sometimes offer you a numbing gel first. Or, if you’re like me, liquid benadryl to swish around your mouth.
Also just going to add this here because I put it in the tags earlier, but it feels important enough to actually put in the main post: be aware not all dental polishes are gluten-free/wheat free.
I mentioned to my dentist that my mouth felt Weird after cleanings. Like allergic spicy weird, and he couldn’t think what it was until he phoned the company that makes the tooth polish he uses.
Turns out all their flavored options have wheat/gluten, but it’s hidden under the “natural flavor” on the ingredients. We switched to the unflavored polish, and I haven’t had a problem since.
So, y'know, just in case you’re having any other ‘spicy’ symptoms at the dentist and you have wheat and or gluten issues, that could be why.
PSA: never discuss private affairs in your DMs, especially contraception and abortion. Social media moguls will absolutely sell you out to the government. There are already cases of people being charged based on evidence in their DMs.
speaking of professional dx, i think it’s important to recognize that professionally dx’d disabled people are at a severe legal disadvantage compared to disabled people who purely self-id; one of the reasons i’m so intensely pro-self-dx and actively advocate for people to self-dx over professional dxing is because professional diagnosis comes with a cavalcade of systemic oppression and violence from the state, no matter what country you’re in.
some things that professional diagnosis of a disability might do, depending on what disability and which country you live in:
bar you from adopting children
get your preexisting children removed from your care
bar you from immigration to most countries
open you up to conservatorship or other form of legal guardianship past the age of majority by your parents or other adults who care for your medical needs, without regard for your consent
remove your ability to consent to medical procedures or withhold consent for medical procedures
bar you from accessing gender care (if trans)
obviously, there’s plenty of resources that are artificially gatekept behind professional diagnosis, like mobility aids that are only affordable through insurance, prescription medication, testing like blood tests and MRIs, AAC devices, and more. but i think it’s important to remember that those of us who need these things aren’t necessarily privileged by our professional diagnoses, insomuch as we’re forced into a situation where we have to subject ourselves to endless state violence via professional diagnosis in order to have access to those necessary resources.
i think it’s particularly important for those of us professionally diagnosed to remember that. there’s a tendency in some circles to treat professional diagnosis like it makes us better or more “legitimately disabled” than self-id disabled folks; this isn’t true and it’s important to remember that we shouldn’t feel the need to define ourselves by a thing that actively harms us. plus, just because someone doesn’t have a professional diagnosis doesn’t mean they don’t need the resources that are kept behind it; often it means they can’t afford to weather the state violencethat comes with the dx, and so instead they have to suffer without medication or aids or testing and have a significantly worse and shorter life because of this. just because they have legal privilege over you doesn’t mean they necessarily have social privilege over you or quality-of-life privilege.
My doctor and I had a discussion and actively decided to keep ‘autism’ off of my medical record, because while I do get along with my daughter’s father – we’re really good friends still, I’m very lucky – at the time we both recognized that things can change, and we were worried that if something happened which wildly changed our relationship, I might run into custody issues with my kid.
It’s not an issue anymore, because, you know, she’s 22, but.

I am fine with “the audience” -
downloading my fics
printing my fics
copy/pasting or screenshotting my fics
sharing your saved copy of my fics with anyone else who might want them in the unlikely but never impossible case that my fics are no longer available on ao3
making a book of my fic(s) and running your fingers across the pages while lovingly whispering my precioussss
doing these things with anything I create for fandom, such as meta, headcanons, au nonsense like ‘texts from the brodinsons,’ etc
I am not fine with “the audience”
doing any of the above with the purpose/intent of plagiarizing my work or passing it off as their own in any capacity

If you’re having trouble using the net, hold “A” while the net is in hand to better control your movement and aim; then, release it when the time is right! You can so use it to sneak up on bugs that scare easily!
This was when I just started out and have since got a better hang of things ^^ (I literally just learnt the other day that you can run with b!)
I just have to learn how to catch a scorpion without it taking me out!
Ah! Wonderful to hear! I hope you’re enjoying island life!
Don’t worry about the scorpion. They’re a challenge indeed.
They’re both tricky, but I’ll take the scorpion over the tarantula any day. The first time I caught one I got a high heart rate alert on my watch because I found it so stressful!
I can’t even figure out to get one! Every time I try it sees me, hisses, then runs at me super fast and stings me before I can do anything…
Hold down A, slowly creep closer to it, stop moving while it’s hissing, and let go of A once your net is over it

i took out about 18k of loans for an illustration degree at a time where i thought i could pay that off in five or ten years– that i could make money as an artist, pay my rent, pay my bills, pay a couple hundred a month and whittle it down. if i got a job illustrating for a magazine or publisher, just a few of those jobs might clear by debt. lots of places had in-house illustrators then: lots of magazines, interior designers, videogame startups, magazines, even websites. it was possible. i was promised if i worked hard to add college skills to my native talent, it was guaranteed.
i never made it. the economy crashed halfway through my degree. it never recovered. studios fired artists by the thousands and hired them on as freelancers. the housing market crashed and bounced and mutated. rent was insane. the minim wage didn’t twitch. but the interest on those unpayable loans went up, and up, and up.
ive paid a couple thousand back, bit by bit. but now i owe 42,000 dollars. there’s no reason for it. my lenders just made those numbers up and no one stopped them. i borrowed 18 and payed back maybe 5. no one is losing 42,000 dollars if biden clears that debt tomorrow. my debt’s already been sold a few times anyway. that means even the original lender shrugged off the loss.
so yeah, i want the government to bail me out. they bailed out all the banks that fucked the economy before i ever grew up. they bailed out all the corporations who starved their workers of fair pay and steady careers for decade after hungry decade. they sure as fuck bailed out every landlord who gouged 90% of my paycheck out plus my security deposit plus pet rent for the privilege of a shitty little box with plastic carpets and leaking roofs.
all these great big men who have unrepentantly fucked up the economy bigtime has gotten to laugh it off and then chug down a firehose of taxpayer funded absolution. i want the 12,000 that my original lender already traded away, that i paid for a broken dream, to be so easily dismissed. i deserve that. we all do.
Like look a big part of why you’re coming across so many autistic people online is that we don’t know where else to go. We are very often isolated in real life interactions. Even whatever tiktok autistic you think is doing so well is probably different face to face. Online you can often stop to think about things more, and you don’t have to look people in the eye, and there’s no chance of unwanted touch, and if you’re worn out from socialising you can just close the window. It’s definitely not universal, and I understand there are autistic people who also find online communication just as daunting, and yes there are still aspects of it that are confusing to me, but like, if and when it works, it’s an escape. It’s an exception. It’s not an accurate reflection of how we are in society in general.
In online posts, you have all the time in the world to think of what to say.
In online posts, you can reread what you’re saying before posting it.
In online posts, your body language and tone are irrelevant.
In online posts, you won’t be interrupted and have assumptions made about what you were going to say.
In online posts, you don’t have to wait until it’s your turn to speak nor do you have to figure out when that is.
In online posts, you can’t be physically attacked for what you say.
Also you do not have to be speaking in order to use the internet. You don’t have to understand spoken language generally, and you can set and maintain incredibly firm boundaries.
Fix this by turning “show upload progress” off in Account Settings 👍
Gotta love the tumblr time honored tradition of telling each other how to turn off fucking annoying updates 🤝🏽✨
Hahaha wtf it doesn’t work
So. The option being highlighted in this post has been there since before this update. This showed notificstions essentially only if reblogs or posts didnt go through immediately on shitty connection, and not every single time. Afaik this option does not include these new stupid updates for every little thing you reblog.* **
The fastest way ive found to get rid of these stupid notifs is to just minimize the app on your phone and pull it back up. Typically it keeps your place on the dash, but not always. Its very annoying and has me just not using the app as much because if i gotta minimize it to get rid of these stupid notifs ill just do something else.
* these new notifs primarily seem to happen if there is an image in the post
**the new notif is also more likely to pop up if you quick reblog something. When posting this reblog it didnt pop up and this id an edit.
I’ve had Show Upload Progress turned off for ages. That stopped being useful about when everyone else discovered this is a thing at all. And if connection quality is relevant then I really need to have words with our ISP, as it has happened on every single thing I post or reblog from the app, both before I turned it off and since it stopped being usefully turn-off-able. I assumed it’s the same thing as the popup on desktop that started appearing solely (afaict) to be a visual distraction every time I post or reblog from desktop?
